Dnata invests A$32 million to establish an air cargo terminal at Western Sydney Airport

SYDNEY, April 22 / WAM / Dnata, the air transport and travel services company, announced that it will invest about 32 million Australian dollars to establish a dedicated air cargo terminal at Western Sydney International Airport “Nancy Bird Walton”.
Under this project, dnata will establish the station within a 5,000 square meter warehouse in the air cargo area at Western Sydney International Airport, which operates 24 hours a day, in addition to an additional area of 4,000 square meters within the lands surrounding the warehouse, where dnata will receive the site as an unprepared structure, and will undertake the preparation of the various facilities and equipment of the cargo station, including vital infrastructure and the installation of a semi-automated material handling system.
Dnata will allocate investments of approximately 6 million Australian dollars to acquire the latest specialized equipment and technologies to ensure efficient, scalable freight operations that are prepared to meet the requirements of future growth, including providing the necessary capabilities to support the handling of specialized shipments such as pharmaceuticals and other time- and temperature-sensitive shipments.
Air cargo operations at the terminal are scheduled to begin in July 2026, that is, before the full opening of the airport to receive passengers later this year.
When completed, the cargo terminal facilities will be able to handle up to 60,000 tons of cargo annually, enhancing the capacity of air cargo operations in New South Wales, which plays a pivotal role in Australia’s air cargo network.
The first phase of the new station is likely to provide about 50 direct jobs, with expectations that it will provide more job opportunities as its operations grow and expand.
Bert Sigsworth, Executive Director, Australian Airport Operations at dnata, said: “Our investment in Western Sydney International Airport reflects our firm confidence in the long-term economic path of the region and Australia more generally, and the pivotal role that air freight plays in supporting Australian trade.
Simon Hickey, CEO of Western Sydney International Airport, said that the new dnata cargo station is a qualitative addition to the airport’s main cargo area, which operates 24 hours a day, as the station will provide cargo and ground handling services to international and local airlines alike, enhancing the performance and efficiency of the country’s vital supply chains.
Catherine King, Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, welcomed dnata Cargo to Western Sydney International Airport.
She said that the new dnata cargo station will connect western Sydney to the world, by transporting an additional 60,000 tons of cargo through the new Sydney Airport annually.
She said that Western Sydney International Airport is the beating heart of logistics services in the state of New South Wales, as the airport will operate alongside other facilities in which the Australian government has invested.
Dnata has a well-established presence in Australia, where it operates in nine airports nationwide, providing cargo, ground handling, passenger services and in-flight catering services. Its operations annually support more than 107,000 aircraft movements and handle approximately 300,000 tons of cargo across its Australian network. Through its food services division, dnata also produces and serves more than 54 million meals annually to its partner airlines.
