Al Wasl’s goal is to finish third in the league

Al-Wasl team captain, international Fabio Lima, confirmed that the “Emperor’s” goal is to finish the season in third place in the professional football league table in order to guarantee a qualifying card for the Asian participation in the next season, after “The Emperor” regained fourth place by defeating Dibba 4-2, yesterday at Zabeel Stadium in the 23rd round.

In press statements after the match, which was attended by about a thousand spectators, Lima expressed his happiness at scoring two goals, and said: “In such confrontations, it is important to score the three points to remain among the top four. “We have a clear goal: to finish the season in third place.”

“The Emperor” raised its score to 39 points, ahead of Al Wahda in direct confrontations, which fell to fifth place, while Dibba’s score froze at 17 points in last place, complicating its position in the struggle for survival.

Lima added: “We played a good match, but we made some mistakes and conceded two goals, and we must work to correct them. An important confrontation awaits us against Al-Wahda in the next round, and we must be fully focused during the remaining matches in order to score the largest possible number of points.”

Al Wasl’s goals were scored by Fabio Lima (19 and 53), Miguel Borja (39), and Brian Palacios (43), while Dibba’s goals were scored by Drissa Coulibaly (25) and Simon Cabral (76).

Fabio Lima raised his goalscoring tally to 182 goals in the league, making him only two goals away from equaling the number of Sebastian Tigali, the second all-time top scorer in the competition with 184 goals, while Ali Mabkhout tops the list with 228 goals.

Lima concluded: “It is too early to talk about next season. I am proud of this country and this club, which is part of my life. What matters to us now is to give our best in the remaining matches, and not think about the future, but rather focus on achieving positive results that will give us the opportunity to participate in the AFC Champions League next season.”
