Sharjah Works: Completion of the “middle line” for water drainage early next year to serve 23 areas

Sharjah, April 27 / WAM / The Sharjah Public Works Department continues to implement the “Middle Line” project for rainwater and groundwater drainage, at a cost of 500 million dirhams, to be completed early next year, as part of one of the largest strategic projects aimed at raising the efficiency of infrastructure in the emirate.
The project serves 23 vital, densely populated areas and in itself constitutes an integrated engineering system that extends over long distances, and acts as a vital network to ensure the smooth flow of movement and prevent water accumulation in roads and residential areas.
The project was divided into three main scopes. The first includes the implementation of the main pumping line with subsidiary lines with a length of 16 kilometers using tunnel drilling technology at a depth of up to 20 metres. The second scope includes the construction of two main pumping stations, “Al-Ghubaiba” and “Al-Soor,” with supporting sub-networks, to ensure efficient water transfer and flow toward the sea.
The third scope includes the implementation of marine outfalls and 55 inspection rooms at depths ranging between 15 and 20 metres, which enhances operating efficiency and ease of maintenance.
The project is being implemented in two phases. The first phase, scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026, includes a number of vital areas, while the second phase will be completed during the first half of 2027 to cover the rest of the targeted areas.
The project relies mainly on tunnel excavation technology with a length of 15 kilometers, compared to only 800 meters for open excavation, in order to maintain the flow of traffic, while using advanced pipes with a long lifespan.
The project covers an area of up to 4 thousand hectares, with the participation of more than 651 workers, who achieved about two million safe working hours, within the framework of commitment to the highest standards of safety and quality.
