A severe injury confuses the “Seleção” calculations.. Militao is out of the World Cup

Brazilian Eder Militao underwent successful surgery on his left thigh, according to Real Madrid, the second Spanish football club, announced today, Tuesday, which will force him to announce his withdrawal from the 2026 World Cup with the Seleção.
Real said in a statement: “Today, our player Eder Militao underwent successful surgery to treat a rupture in the proximal tendon of the biceps femoris muscle in his left leg,” without specifying the duration of his absence.

The Real Madrid defender suffered an injury last week in his team’s match against Alaves in the 33rd round of the league competitions.

Militao, 28, underwent the operation in a clinic in Finland, under the supervision of the Royal Club’s medical staff, and “will begin his rehabilitation program in the coming days.”

Spanish and Brazilian press estimates indicate that the absence of the former Porto player, who joined Real in 2019, will last at least five months.

After a series of injuries over the past two years, including two cruciate ligament tears, Militao is expected to miss the World Cup finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico (June 11 – July 19).

Militao’s absence from the ranks of the five-time world champions is a strong blow to the player and his Italian coach, Carlo Ancelotti, who previously supervised him at Real Madrid and considers him “one of the best defenders in the world.”
