المملكة: Saud Medical City launches an advanced technology to treat thyroid tumors without surgery
In a qualitative medical achievement that reflects the development of specialized services, King Saud Medical City – Member Riyadh First Health Complex – about implementing the first case of treating tumors The thyroid glandusing the thermal cauterization technique (Thyroid Ablation) through interventional radiology, for a patient who was suffering from a large tumor pressing on the esophagus and causing difficulty in swallowing.
This technique is considered one of the latest non-surgical therapeutic solutions, as it is performed using a fine needle under the guidance of radiation, without the need for hypnosis, surgical intervention, or general anesthesia. The procedure took only about 30 minutes, after which the tumor began to gradually shrink over the following days, while the patient was able to leave the hospital within one hour, which reflects the efficiency of the procedure and the speed of recovery.
A qualitative shift
The leader of the medical team, Dr., confirmed. Adeeb Bazhair said that this technology represents a qualitative leap in the treatment of thyroid tumors, especially for patients who suffer from stressful symptoms or prefer less invasive treatment options, noting that the initial results are promising and enhance the trend towards adopting modern technologies in health care.
This achievement embodies the rapid progress in interventional radiology services, and reflects the level of integration and cooperation between the specializations of interventional radiology and endocrine surgery, which contributes to improving the quality of life for patients.
