Mansour bin Mohammed is crowned champions of the Vice President’s Cup for Jiu-Jitsu

His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE Olympic Committee, crowned the winning clubs in the Vice President’s Cup Jiu-Jitsu Championship, which was held over two days at the Shabab Al-Ahli Club, with wide participation from the country’s clubs and academies.
The tournament emerged as a platform to test the readiness of teams and measure the development of training programs within clubs and academies, in light of competitions characterized by competitiveness, discipline, and a great desire to score points and enhance attendance at the local season level.
The closing day witnessed the holding of the final competitions for all categories, where Palms Sports Academy Team 777 succeeded in clinching the title of the U-14 category, and the Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club was crowned champion of the U-16 category, while Al-Jazira Club won the top spot in the U-18 category, and the title of the adult category went to the Baniyas Jiu-Jitsu Club, at the end of a day full of strong confrontations that highlighted the subtle technical differences between the participating teams.
The ceremony for crowning the title and first places took place in the presence of the Vice President of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, and the members of the Federation’s Board of Directors, Mohammed bin Dalmuj Al Dhaheri and Yousef Al Batran, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club, Ahmed Saeed Al Jarwan, the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Baniyas Sports Club, Nasser Khadem Al Kaabi, and a number of officials from the Federation, the Dubai Sports Council, and clubs in the country.
Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri congratulated the winning clubs and academies, praising the levels presented by the players during the tournament, and appreciating the efforts of Shabab Al Ahly Club in hosting the competitions and the organizational capabilities it provided that contributed to the event coming out in a way that befits the status of the tournament.
Al Dhaheri stressed that clubs and academies are a major partner in the development of Emirati jiu-jitsu, pointing out that major local tournaments give players an important opportunity to interact, and allow technical staff to stand up to their levels in a truly competitive environment.
He said: “The Vice President’s Cup for Jiu-Jitsu has a special place on our annual sports agenda, as it combines competitive value with a developmental role. This edition witnessed distinguished levels that demonstrated the amount of effort exerted by clubs and academies in preparing players, and also contributed to highlighting a number of young talents who possess the potential to develop and compete in the future.”
For his part, Ahmed Saeed Al Jarwan said: “We extend our sincere thanks to the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation for their constant support. In the management of the Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club, we seek to always encourage players to respect competitors, referees, and the laws, as this is our most important principle. We congratulate everyone on this achievement and the joint efforts they made from the Board of Directors, the CEO, coaches, players and technicians at the club.”
Member of the Board of Directors of Baniyas Club Company and Supervisor of Individual Games, Obaid Musabah Al Kaabi, said: “We thank the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and the management of Baniyas Club for their support of combat sports. Our goal was to maintain the title, and thank God we succeeded in that, as a result of the efforts of everyone, whether the technical and training staff, administrators, players, and members of the club company. We are proud that the Baniyas Jiu-Jitsu Club is full of elite world-class players.”
Director of Jiu-Jitsu at Al-Jazira Club, Abdullah Al-Qama, said: “Thanks to God, we succeeded in achieving this achievement, and I congratulate everyone on this victory, and we are happy to see our children on the podium. We thank the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation for their support and great efforts. We also thank the management of Al Jazira Club for the constant support, and we are proud of winning this tournament that bears a name dear to all of us.”
