Abu Dhabi, 5 May / WAM / His Excellency Mohammed bin Mubarak bin Fadel Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Defense Affairs, confirmed that May 6 is a special day in the nation’s memory, and it is an opportunity to showcase one of the features of the wisdom of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, “may God rest his soul,” and his brothers, the rulers of the Emirates, who took the decision to unify the armed forces.

The following is the text of His Excellency’s speech on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the unification of the armed forces:

“The 6th of May is a day that has its own specialness in the nation’s memory, and is a testament to the wisdom of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, and his brothers, the rulers of the Emirates, who took the decision to unify the armed forces, to complete the pillars of the Union State and embark on a new phase of construction and development.

On that day in 1976, the visions of the founders were united to ensure that our armed forces would be under one command and one flag, and they made their most important decision in the history of the state, which turned multiple and dispersed forces into a unified force, an impenetrable fortress, and a strong shield for a strong state that stands tall with the wisdom of its leadership and the efforts of its people.

On this occasion, I am honored to extend to the office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, may God protect him, my highest congratulations and blessings, calling on the Almighty God to return this immortal occasion to them and to all members of the Armed Forces with pride and glory, while renewing the pledge to always be loyal to the homeland, its leadership and its people.
