Officially… Mbappe’s position on participating with Real Madrid against Barcelona in “El Clásico”

French star Kylian Mbappe was absent from Real Madrid’s roster to face Barcelona in the upcoming “El Clasico” on Sunday, in the Spanish Football League, in a match that could allow the Catalan giant to win the title in the event of a draw.
The French striker’s absence comes in light of his recovery from a hamstring injury. Despite his participation in group training on Friday, he did not appear on the list announced by the club through its official accounts on social media.
Mbappe continues the qualification process, one month before the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico (June 11 – July 19), at a time when his second season with the Royal Club is experiencing a state of contrast, as he presented distinguished individual numbers by scoring 41 goals in 41 matches, but he did not succeed in winning any major title.
On the other hand, his colleague and compatriot Aurelien Chouamini was on the team’s list, despite the financial penalty imposed on him by the club in the amount of 500 thousand euros, due to a violent quarrel with his Uruguayan colleague Federico Valverde, who in turn was subjected to a penalty and forced rest due to a head injury.
Mbappe’s absence from El Clásico may reopen the door to criticism in Spain regarding his commitment within the capital team and his behavior, which was sometimes described as “individual.”
The former Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco player was recently subjected to harsh criticism for traveling to Sardinia last weekend, while his teammates were playing a league match against Espanyol.
His smiling appearance while leaving the training center on Thursday, after the quarrel between Chouamini and Valverde, also sparked a wave of controversy, prompting his coach Alvaro Arbeloa to defend him again.
Arbeloa said, “I do not understand how it is possible to take things out of context and confirm that a player came out smiling after training. All Real Madrid fans are aware of the amount of sacrifices that Mbappe made in order to join the club, despite having everything in his previous team. He gave up a lot in order to achieve his dream of playing here.”
