Tuchel shocks the English fans… excluding Foden and Palmer from the World Cup roster

The German coach of the England national football team, Thomas Tuchel, today, Friday, excluded Phil Foden and Cole Palmer, among a number of prominent names, from the “Three Lions” list for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, which is a great shock to the English fans.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (27 years old), Real Madrid’s Spanish full-back, was also excluded, while the summoning of Ivan Toney, the Saudi Al-Ahly striker, to join the squad was considered a surprise.
Tuchel, who won the Champions League during his coaching spell at Chelsea, was hired to end England’s 60-year drought for titles.
The former coach of Paris Saint-Germain in France and Bayern Munich in Germany made a series of bold decisions for which he will be held severely accountable if the “Three Lions” do not achieve glory in the coming weeks.
Foden and Palmer played a pivotal role in the Three Lions reaching the 2024 European Cup final.
Foden, the Manchester City star, and Palmer, the Chelsea playmaker, paid the price for their mediocre performance with their clubs this season.
Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White and Leeds striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin were also excluded, despite being among the top scorers in the Premier League this season.
On Thursday, Manchester United defender Harry Maguire expressed his shock at not being included in the squad.
The 33-year-old defender wrote on social media: “I was confident of my ability to play a prominent role this summer with my country’s national team after the season I played.”
The 66-cap international added, “I was shocked and felt very disappointed by this decision.”
Luke Shaw, Maguire’s United teammate, was also absent from the squad.
On the other hand, Tuchel bet on centre-back John Stones despite his few appearances with Manchester City during a season in which he suffered from injuries.
Tony, who will turn 30 next June and who excelled this season by scoring 32 goals in 32 matches in the Saudi League, will be a replacement for main striker Harry Kane.
Tony gave an outstanding performance as a substitute in the European Cup two years ago, but he has played only two minutes with the national team since his move to Saudi Arabia in 2024.
The England national team will begin its World Cup campaign by facing Croatia in Dallas on June 17, before playing against Ghana on June 23, then against Panama four days later. Here is the lineup:
Goalkeepers: Jordan Pickford (Everton), Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace), James Trafford (Manchester City)
Defense: Reece James (Chelsea), Tino Livramento and Dan Byrne (Newcastle), Mark Guehi, John Stones and Nico O’Reilly (Manchester City), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), Jarel Quansah (Bayer Leverkusen), Djede Spence (Tottenham)
