Dubai Customs applies proactive initiatives and solutions to ensure the continuity of trade and supply chains

DUBAI, 23rd May / WAM / The proactive measures and initiatives implemented by Dubai Customs during the last period coincide with the recent economic directives adopted by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai, represented by the adoption of the second group of economic facilities worth 1.5 billion dirhams, bringing the total support packages to 2.5 billion dirhams within two months, as confirmed by the Ports and Customs Corporation. The free zone believes that these efforts come to enhance economic flexibility and business sustainability, in line with the emirate’s directions to consolidate the concept of “economic security” and raise the readiness of the economic system and vital sectors to face global, regional and geopolitical changes.

Dubai’s flexible economic model continues to develop, relying on the speed of response and integration between government agencies and the private sector, which was confirmed by His Excellency Abdullah bin Damithan, Chairman of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, indicating that the speed of response has become part of the government work model, as the Corporation is constantly working to develop practical solutions and initiatives that ensure the continuity of trade and consolidate the confidence of the global business community, while continuing to adopt supportive policies and procedures that raise the efficiency of the business environment and keep pace with Dubai’s aspirations to enhance its position on the global trade map.

Dubai is taking proactive steps before the impact of challenges occurs to transform them into opportunities that support economic growth, according to what was explained by His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Busnad, Director General of Dubai Customs, who pointed out that every hour in the trade movement means stability in the markets and continuity of business, which prompted the department from the first moments to implement practical measures and develop an integrated system in cooperation with partners, to ensure the flow of goods and the sustainability of supply chains through flexible operational and customs solutions.

The “Green Corridor”, which was launched by Dubai Customs at the beginning of the recent events in the region, constituted a practical model for the speed of government response, as confirmed by His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Busnad, as it contributed to the transfer of shipments to alternative ports to ensure their uninterrupted flow and support the confidence of the business community. This step was accompanied by measures that included extending the transit period from 30 to 90 days, facilitating the entry of shipments through the ports of Khor Fakkan and Fujairah and transporting them by land under the customs guarantee system, in addition to accelerating the entry of shipments. Food and medicines to ensure the abundance of products and the stability of markets with the highest standards of quality and safety.

As part of these efforts, Dubai Customs organized 12 interactive workshops and more than 98 coordination meetings and business councils under the slogan “Responding to Crises and Innovating Solutions,” with wide participation from the private sector, shipping companies, logistics services, and experts. The department received 141 companies from major clients and commercial attachés of international missions that included Turkey, Germany, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, New Zealand, Australia, South Korea, China, Italy, and Egypt, with the aim of direct communication and proactive listening. These meetings contributed to discussing more than 83 challenges and proposals that focused on operational aspects, clearance procedures, and shipping costs. A number of them were transformed into practical initiatives that were implemented in a record period to speed up customs operations, while the department continued to develop direct communication channels through the “Major Customers Council and the Trade and Supply Chain Integration Council” to speed up the processing of comments. The workshops concluded with practical recommendations that support customs procedures and enhance joint coordination, thus consolidating Dubai’s position as a global model in economic readiness and reflecting… Dubai Customs’ efforts are consistent with the directives of the wise leadership to ensure the continuity of trade flow.
