Austria calls for updating the interpretation of the Human Rights Convention

The Prime Minister of Austria, Chancellor Christian Stocker, called for a reinterpretation of the European Convention on Human Rights and the formulation of a “contemporary interpretation” of it that would allow the deportation of illegal immigrants who have no right to residence and those convicted of crimes.
Stocker expressed his satisfaction with the expansion of the coalition of countries calling for a review of the interpretation of the European Convention on Human Rights, stressing that this approach now enjoys the support of all member states of the Council of Europe. The Austrian Chancellor indicated the change in countries’ positions, with the issuance of a joint declaration by the member states of the Council of Europe, stressing the necessity of adopting an original and contemporary interpretation of the agreement, 70 years after its approval.
