Salah starts in his last match with Liverpool

Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah started in his last match with his team, Liverpool, on Sunday against its guest, Brentford, in the last thirty-eighth round of the English Football League, days after he criticized the team’s playing style under the leadership of Dutch coach Arne Slot.

The “Egyptian King” leaves Anfield after a prosperous nine-year career with the club, bidding farewell alongside Scottish defender Andy Robertson, who in turn joined in 2017.

Salah (33 years old) finally came out of the tunnel onto the floor of Anfield Stadium under the bright sunshine, accompanied by his two daughters, while Robertson (32 years old) accompanied his three children.

The two players were met with a storm of applause and cheers when they were announced by the stadium announcer, in a festive atmosphere.

The fans raised banners celebrating the players, one of which read: “Thank you to the two legends,” while another read: “We have moved from greatness to glory.” Salah is our king.”

In a post on social media following last week’s loss to Aston Villa, the Egyptian international said that he would like to see the return of “heavy football,” in reference to the approach adopted by former Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp.

The post was admired by a number of players from the current squad who suffered a difficult season after winning the league title last season.

Slott said on Friday that he did not believe that the Egyptian striker’s comments undermined him, adding, “I think Mo was very happy with the way we played last year because he led us to win the league.”

He continued, “Football has changed, football has developed, but we want the same thing, which is what is best for Liverpool, that is, competing for titles, which we did not achieve this season.”

Salah has scored 257 goals in 441 matches since joining Anfield in 2017, and only Ian Rush and Roger Hunt are ahead of him on the list of Liverpool’s all-time top scorers.

He won several titles with the club, including the Champions League and two English Premier League titles.

The 33-year-old player topped the Premier League’s top scorers list last season with 29 goals, but his level has declined significantly this season, limiting himself to scoring only seven goals.

Liverpool is scheduled to secure the fifth qualifying ticket for the Champions League, as it is three points ahead of sixth-placed Bournemouth, with a significant advantage in goal difference.
