Besiktas withdraws from negotiations to include Mohamed Salah

The Turkish club Besiktas has temporarily withdrawn from negotiations regarding the contract with Mohamed Salah, captain of the Egyptian national team and former Liverpool star, who is available for free in the transfer market this summer after his contract with the English club expired last June 30.
Besiktas sporting director, Onder Ozen, said in a press conference on Monday: “There are financial demands that complicated the negotiations on the part of Mohamed Salah’s agent, related to image rights in an unprecedented manner, which have not been provided to any player before.”
He also explained, “There is a certain ceiling set by the club president, and there is also a legal percentage for commissions, exceeding which will involve us in legal problems, so we dealt realistically and decided to withdraw from the negotiations, and our offer to include Mohamed Salah under the conditions we specified remains valid.”
He continued, “If we receive a positive response regarding this offer, we can then complete the deal, and it is out of the question that we will submit any other offer. It is up to the player’s representatives, who told us that they are negotiating with other clubs, but we will not back down from our position.”
The sports director of Besiktas club revealed that he held three sessions, the first of which was a direct session between him and Mohamed Salah to explain the club’s project, the team’s structure, its playing style, and the club’s atmosphere.
He pointed out at the conclusion of his statements: “The next day, the team coach met with Salah, and they talked together about technical and tactical matters, but when we started discussing financial matters, the negotiations that began since July 21 faltered.”
Mohamed Salah left Liverpool after nine seasons in the team’s shirt, during which he won many individual awards, and contributed to the team winning the English Premier League title twice in 2020 and 2025, and the European Champions League in 2019.
