Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy and Bahrain Polytechnic cooperate in the maritime transport sector and modern technologies

ABU DHABI, June 1, 2017 – Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Bahrain Technical College (Bahrain Polytechnic), under which cooperation between the two sides will be enhanced in the fields of education, training and applied research, and the building of qualitative partnerships that contribute to the development of national competencies in the region in the maritime, engineering and technical sectors.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Dr. Yasser Al Wahidi, President of Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy, and Professor Kieran O’Cahon, CEO of Bahrain Technical College “Bahrain Polytechnic”, in the presence of a number of officials from both sides.
The memorandum aims to establish a general framework for cooperation between the two parties to explore joint opportunities in multiple fields, including providing training programs and courses in areas of common interest, developing trainer training programmes, organizing lectures, workshops, events and conferences, in addition to providing practical training and student employment opportunities for Bahrain Polytechnic students and graduates.
Areas of cooperation also include implementing applied research projects that contribute to developing solutions and technologies that serve the maritime sector, marine engineering, maritime security and logistics services, in addition to exchanging knowledge and experiences in the technical and engineering fields, and developing advanced training programs in modern technologies and applied research, in a way that enhances innovation and links academic outputs to the needs of the industrial and maritime sector.
Dr. Yasser Al Wahidi, President of the Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy, said that this partnership reflects the academy’s commitment to enhancing applied education and supporting innovation through regional cooperation, noting that aligning academic excellence with the needs of the sector contributes to empowering the next generation of pioneers in the maritime transport and technology sectors.
For his part, Professor Kieran O’Cahon, CEO of Bahrain Polytechnic, said that this partnership is a strategic step in line with the objectives of the college’s strategic plan 2026-2029, which focuses on enhancing applied education, expanding partnerships with the regional and international sectors, and raising students’ readiness for the labor market by integrating academic learning with practical experience.
He added that this memorandum contributes to supporting the Polytechnic’s direction towards innovation, developing future skills, and enhancing its presence as a leading applied higher education institution in the region.
This memorandum reflects the commitment of the two parties to expand their regional and international partnerships, enhance the quality of applied education, and enable students to access innovative educational and training opportunities that support their professional readiness and keep pace with the requirements of future sectors.
