139 female students participated in the school archery and archery tournaments in Sharjah

Sharjah, June 4, 2017 – The Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation organized the school championships for bow and arrow and archery as part of the Specialized Schools Initiative, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Sharjah Private Education Authority, at the Sharjah Olympic Center for Women’s Sports, with the participation of 139 female students.

The school standard tournament for bow and arrow witnessed the participation of 69 female students from 9 schools in two age groups: 9-10 years and 11-12 years, while 70 female students from 8 schools participated in the school standard archery tournament in the 12-13 years and 14-15 years categories.

In the bow and arrow competition for the 9-10 year olds category, Aisha Abdullah Askar from the Emirati American School won first place, Alia Saif from Sharjah Model School for Boys took second place, and Bakhita Ghareeb from Al Bataeh School took third place.

In the 11-12 year old category, Fatima Mohammed Al Nuaimi from the Emirati American School achieved first place, followed by Sarah Sultan Al Suwaidi from the Emirati American School, second place, and Moza Saif from Al Bataeh School, third place.

In the shooting competitions for the 12-13 year old category, Fatima Mubarak from Al-Bataeh School achieved first place, followed by Qut Sultan from Al-Bataeh School in second place, and Shahad Badr from the Emirati American School came in third place.

In the 14-15 years old category, Reem Yaqoub from Ruqaya School took first place, Maitha Abdullah from Al Bataeh School came in second place, and Maitha Khamis from Wasit Model School came in third place.

His Excellency Hanan Al Mahmoud, Vice President of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation, said that school tournaments reflect the Foundation’s approach towards making sports an effective part of the educational environment, not only through participation, but also through providing organized experiences that help female students build confidence, discipline, and understand the value of sports in character formation. What we witnessed in the bow and arrow and archery tournaments confirms the importance of investing in individual sports that develop focus, patience, and the ability to control.

She appreciated the cooperation of the Ministry of Education, the Sharjah Private Education Authority, and the participating schools, and praised the role of physical education teachers in encouraging female students and preparing them for these experiences, which enhances the opportunities for building a generation more connected to sports and more capable of dealing with it as a way of life and a path to development.

Eliazia Al Suwaidi, Head of the Technical Preparation and Follow-up Division at the Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation, confirmed that the two championships represent an important milestone within the Specialized Schools Initiative and within the framework of the Foundation’s direction to diversify sports experiences within the school environment and provide the opportunity for female students to learn about specialized individual sports based on precision, focus and discipline.
