Trump will hand the World Cup to the 2026 World Cup champion

FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed that US President Donald Trump will hand over the World Cup to the team that wins the 2026 World Cup in the final match that will be held on July 19.

Infantino has enjoyed a strong relationship with Trump for years, but the US President has not said anything yet about the tournament, which began on June 11.

But Infantino confirmed in an interview with the “Fox & Friends” program that Trump will hand the cup to the 2026 World Cup champion at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, just as he did in the Club World Cup final hosted by the United States in 2025, which Chelsea won.

British news agency PA Media quoted the FIFA president as saying: “I will be with President Trump to enjoy the final and hand the cup to the winning team,” adding, “I will certainly hand the cup with him, as we are together all the time.”

Trump sparked controversy after remaining on the podium in the Club World Cup final after handing the cup to Chelsea captain Reece James.

After the match, James said, “We were informed that the American president would hand over the cup and then leave the podium, but he wanted to stay.”

When asked about what Trump said to him, the Chelsea captain replied, “His voice was loud, but frankly, I did not hear much of what he said. He congratulated me on winning the title, and asked us to enjoy this moment.”

As for Cole Palmer, who scored one of Chelsea’s goals, he expressed his surprise at the US President’s position.

“I knew (Trump) would be there to hand over the trophy, but I didn’t expect or know that he would remain on the podium during the championship celebration. It kind of confused me,” Palmer said.
