Mbappé surpasses Pele in scoring contributions at the World Cup

Kylian Mbappé, the captain of the France national team, succeeded in breaking the record of the Brazilian legend Pele in the number of goalscoring contributions in the World Cup, despite not scoring in his team’s 4-1 victory over Norway, in the third round of the ninth group of the 2026 World Cup in America, Mexico and Canada, according to what was stated by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).
The French team was able to win the top spot in Group Nine after its great victory over Norway 4-1 in the third round, qualifying to face one of the teams that ranked third in its group in the tournament, while the Norway team will meet Côte d’Ivoire next Tuesday in the round of 32.
Ousmane Dembélé, the Paris Saint-Germain striker, shone and scored three goals (a hat-trick), while his colleague Desiree Doué scored the fourth goal, and Mbappe made two goals for Dembélé to make history.
The official website of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) stated that Mbappe reached the 20th goal contribution number after assisting Dembele’s second goal, with 16 goals and four assists, surpassing Pele, who had 19 scoring contributions (12 goals and seven assists), while the Argentine Lionel Messi has 27 scoring contributions, with 18 goals and nine assists.
