Dubai is consolidating its position as a global center for driving the future of the sports economy

Dubai has established its position as one of the most prominent global capitals of the sports economy, benefiting from an integrated strategic vision that made sports a vital economic sector that contributes increasingly to the gross domestic product, supports sustainable development goals, and enhances the emirate’s attractiveness for investments, tourism and business.
The achievements achieved by Dubai over the past years reflect its success in using sport as a tool for economic development, by attracting and hosting major international tournaments and events, developing an advanced sports infrastructure, and building an integrated system that combines investment, tourism, technology and sports media.
According to the “Dubai Sports Plan 2033,” the emirate aims to raise the sports sector’s contribution to the gross domestic product from 10.17 billion dirhams annually to 18.3 billion dirhams by 2033, by approximately 80% compared to current levels.
The plan seeks to increase the number of attendees at major sporting events from 1.67 million people annually to more than 4.1 million people, in addition to increasing the number of major sporting events by up to 250% in the coming years.
With the launch of the “Dubai Economic Plan.” D33“The sports sector has emerged as one of the most promising sectors within the new economic system, driven by the rapid growth of the sports tourism markets, broadcasting rights, commercial sponsorship, sports content industry, and the digital economy related to sports.
Dubai annually hosts more than 400 local and international sporting events in various sports, as well as about 100 training camps for international clubs and teams, which reflects the emirate’s ability to attract major events and turn them into a sustainable economic engine that supports the hospitality, tourism, aviation, retail and services sectors.
The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship is at the forefront of these events, which has succeeded over many years in attracting the elite of the game’s international stars, and has received wide media follow-up at the regional and international levels, which has contributed to enhancing the mental image of Dubai as a global sports destination.
Salah Tahlak, Director of Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, stressed that the tournament’s continued successes reflect Dubai’s leading position in hosting major sporting events, noting that international tournaments have become an influential platform for supporting the economy, tourism and global promotion of the emirate, as well as enhancing its attractiveness for sports investments and partnerships.
In turn, the Dubai Marathon has maintained its position among the most famous international marathon races, attracting thousands of runners of various nationalities annually, in an event that directly reflects on the hospitality, hotels, aviation, and retail sectors.
Counselor Ahmed Al Kamali, General Coordinator of the Dubai International Marathon, said that sport represents an important economic engine in the emirate, in light of the tourism, investment and media revenues generated by international sporting events, stressing that the Dubai Marathon represents a successful model of the growing economic role of major sporting events.
The past years have witnessed an expansion in hosting various international tournaments, including international golf tournaments, world tours of mixed martial arts, and international cricket tournaments, in addition to major events in running, cycling, and marine sports, which contributed to diversifying the target audience base and enhancing economic returns.
In the context of attracting sports with a wide audience, the launch of the “Dubai Basketball” project and the team’s participation in a league ABA The European Union is a new strategic step that strengthens the emirate’s position as a regional and global center for sports investment.
Dubai has recently emerged as a major destination for e-sports, which is one of the fastest growing sports sectors in the world, due to the investment opportunities it provides related to the digital economy, content creation, and attracting young people.

In football, Dubai has become a preferred destination for winter camps for international clubs and teams, benefiting from its advanced infrastructure and advanced sports and hotel facilities, which achieves direct and indirect economic returns on many sectors related to sports and tourism activities.
Dubai continues to enhance its intellectual and investment position by hosting the Dubai International Sports Conference, which has become a global platform that brings together decision-makers, experts, and stars to discuss the future of the sports industry, and develop sports investment, innovation, technology, and artificial intelligence in the sports field.
