Graduates of Sharjah Sports Leaders visit international institutions to gain governance and development experiences

Sharjah, June 29 / WAM / Graduates of the Sports Leadership Program, which was implemented by the Sharjah Capacity Development Foundation in partnership with the Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation, participated in a series of professional and knowledge visits with the aim of reviewing best practices and making standard comparisons in the areas of sports governance, water sports management, facility operation, and high-performance systems.

These visits, the most recent of which are to the Spanish city of Barcelona, come within the practical path of the program’s outcomes, which enhances the ability of graduates to link leadership and professional knowledge with applied experiences.

The participants attended a specialized session in sports governance held at the University of Barcelona, which addressed the specificity of the management of sports institutions and the importance of building governance systems that take into account the nature of the sports sector and the intersection of its parties and paths, especially since the governance of sports institutions cannot be dealt with as a direct extension of the governance of government institutions or private companies due to the specificity of sports as a system that combines regulatory requirements, investment aspects, and relationships with players, teams, partners, and supporting bodies.

The visits also included the Barcelona Athletic Club (CNAB), where the delegation was briefed on an integrated model that combines community sports and competitive sports in swimming and water polo through a system that includes teams for different age groups and a women’s team that includes Olympic-level players, in addition to programs and activities that allow the practice of water sports within an organized environment that serves the community and the sports teams at the same time.

The delegation visited the Sant Cugat Center for High Sports Performance (CAR), which specializes in preparing athletes according to a scientific and professional system that includes specialized training, measurements, hospitalization, medical, physiological and nutritional services, in addition to the supporting aspects that contribute to raising the efficiency of athletes and developing preparation plans.

His Excellency Hanan Al Mahmoud, Vice President of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation, said that these visits allow studying successful models and understanding their management mechanisms, then adapting their elements to suit our local reality and the needs of women’s sports in Sharjah. They also give cadres a wider space to learn from specialized experiences and transform knowledge into practical tools that support institutional and sports development.

For her part, Moza Al Shamsi, Director of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation, confirmed that the Foundation is keen to link institutional development with learning from specialized experiences and learning about best practices, and these visits reflect the diversity of sports professions that contribute to developing the system from management and operation to training, scientific measurements, hospitalization, and supportive services for athletes.
