"Emirates Red Crescent" Organizes a workshop on the principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
Abu Dhabi, 9 July / WAM / The Emirates Red Crescent Authority, in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross, organized a workshop on the basic principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, with the participation of a number of the Authority’s employees and volunteers, with the aim of enhancing their capabilities and developing their skills in a way that contributes to raising the efficiency of the humanitarian response and achieving a sustainable impact.
The workshop addressed the basic principles of the international movement, international humanitarian law and its sources, the components of the international movement, the roles of the International Committee, the International Federation, and the National Societies and coordination mechanisms between them, in addition to programs for restoring family links, and employing artificial intelligence techniques, information technology, and communication strategies in supporting humanitarian work.
His Excellency Ahmed Sari Al Mazrouei, Secretary-General of the Emirates Red Crescent Authority, confirmed in his opening speech that the workshop comes within the Authority’s strategy aimed at building the capabilities of workers and volunteers, and empowering them with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform their humanitarian tasks efficiently and professionally.
He praised the strategic partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross and the support it provides in the fields of training and rehabilitation, noting that the growth and complexity of humanitarian crises requires those working in the humanitarian field to be familiar with the basic principles of the international movement, international humanitarian law, and protection mechanisms and restoring family links, in a way that enhances their ability to respond effectively to field challenges.
For her part, Valentina Bernasconi, Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation in the UAE, confirmed that the workshop reflects the strength of cooperation between the International Committee and the Emirates Red Crescent Authority in the field of capacity building and enhancing the readiness of humanitarian personnel to respond to crises and disasters.
She praised the pioneering humanitarian role played by the Emirates Red Crescent Authority locally and internationally, stressing that it represents a model for national societies that combine serving local communities and promoting international humanitarian solidarity, noting that partnership with national societies is a fundamental pillar of the work of the International Committee.
She added that these workshops constitute an important platform for exchanging experiences and enhancing cooperation, which contributes to developing the humanitarian response.
