An attempted robbery at Lamine Jamal’s house hours after Spain qualified for the World Cup final

The home of Spanish national team star Lamine Jamal was subjected to a burglary attempt early Wednesday morning, hours after La Roja’s 2-0 victory over France in the 2026 World Cup semi-finals, according to what the Catalan police and press announced Wednesday.

A spokesman for the Catalan police, Mossos d’Esquadra, told AFP that “an armed robbery attempt occurred at a residence in the city of Esplugues de Llobregat” on the outskirts of Barcelona, ​​explaining that he could not reveal the identity of the owner of the house in order to preserve his privacy.

According to the Catalan newspaper La Vanguardia, the ownership of the house belongs to Jamal.

The newspaper explained that two masked people climbed the wall of the house, but fled after they were surprised by private security personnel.

The robbery attempt took place at dawn, hours after the end of the match, which saw “La Roja” eliminate the “Blues” team, thanks to a penalty kick obtained by Jamal and successfully translated by Mikel Oyarsabal (22), before Pedro Porro added the second (58).

La Vanguardia indicated that ownership of the house previously belonged to former international defender Gerard Pique and Colombian singer Shakira, when they lived together in Barcelona.

The Catalan police also announced the opening of an investigation into another “violent robbery” that targeted a house in the same city, close to Jamal’s house.

Robberies at the homes of football players, especially in the capital, Madrid, are a common occurrence, as many of them have been victims in recent years, most notably Frenchman Karim Benzema, Brazilian Rodrigo, and Dani Carvajal.
