"Islamic Affairs and Endowments" Launches the third edition of the initiative "Myth" To pay zakat on dates
ABU DHABI, 21 JULY / WAM / The General Authority for Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat, during its participation in the Liwa Dates Festival 2026, held in Liwa in the Al Dhafra region, launched the third edition of the “Myth” initiative to calculate and pay zakat on dates, coinciding with the palm fruit harvesting season in the country.
This comes in cooperation with the Emirates Council for Sharia Fatwa, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, and the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, which includes a set of awareness and guidance programs and materials that enhance awareness of the provisions of zakat on dates and how to calculate it, pay it and present it to those who deserve it through communication with official authorities.
His Excellency Dr. Omar Habtoor Al-Darai, Chairman of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat, said that launching this initiative annually falls within the authority’s strategy and efforts to educate farmers and palm farm owners about the importance of paying zakat on dates at harvest, pointing out that the commitment to paying zakat reflects the spirit of social responsibility, embodies the meanings of giving and solidarity urged by the Islamic religion, and achieves the vision of the wise leadership in strengthening the social fabric, cooperation and solidarity.
His Excellency stressed that this initiative includes an integrated awareness program across the various media and digital platforms of the Authority and its partners, which includes awareness messages, video clips, and educational materials presented by an elite group of legal specialists, to introduce the provisions of zakat on dates, while answering the public’s most prominent inquiries through communication channels.
Al-Dari revealed that the Authority provides the UAE program for calculating zakat on dates, which enables palm owners to accurately calculate the amount of zakat due, based on the number of fruitful palm trees in various regions of the country. Also, donors can benefit from the smart zakat calculator available through the authority’s website and smart application, to know the amount of zakat on dates in UAE dirhams for those wishing to pay the value instead of dates.
The Authority has allocated the number 8008222 to respond to inquiries related to date zakat procedures, while the Emirates Council for Sharia Fatwa can be contacted via number 8002422 to answer questions and legal fatwas about its provisions, calling on owners of palm trees, whether in homes or farms, whose crops have reached the zakat quorum of 541 kilograms, to take the initiative to pay their zakat as thanks to God Almighty for His blessings.
