A referee suffered a concussion after intervening to break up a group fight between male players (video)

Media reports stated that Hikma suffered a concussion after she fell to the ground unconscious as a result of her attempt to break up a group fight between male players during a friendly match between French club Metz and Dutch Fortuna Sittard on Saturday.

The referee, Mathilde Demonquet, was unable to complete the match following the accident that occurred at the Schlossberg Stadium in the city of Vorbach, eastern France, as part of the two teams’ preparations for the new season.
In the match report published on his website, Fortuna Sittard, who lost the match 3-1, described the incident as a “remarkable moment”, but did not comment further. Metz did not publish any report about the incident on its website.

Tensions flared in the 40th minute when two players from both teams clashed following a shirt-pulling incident. Other players quickly joined the clash.
Video clips on social media showed that Damonquet fell to the ground after trying to intervene to break up the fight, after she was beaten in the middle of the fight that took place in front of a large banner in the stands that read, “Respect the referee.”
Damonquet remained on the ground for several minutes, holding her arm, while assistant referees, security personnel and medical staff rushed to the stadium to restore order and assess her condition.
Damonquet (26 years old) resumed her mission, but as an assistant referee after the resumption of play, before she left the field at the end of the first half to be replaced by another assistant referee.
It was reported that the French woman suffered a concussion following the collision she was exposed to.
