Iran qualifies for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 2-2 draw with Uzbekistan

Iran qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after drawing 2-2 with its guest Uzbekistan at Azadi Stadium in Tehran today, Tuesday, thanks to Mahdi Tarmi’s goals in the second half.

This is the seventh and fourth time for Iran in the World Cup and joined Japan as the second team from Asia and the third team in the world after New Zealand.

The 2026 version, which will be held in North America, will be the first to participate in 48 teams, compared to 32 teams who participated in the 2022 edition.
