Emirates and Malta hold the first session of the joint committee meetings in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, April 25 / WAM / The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the first session of the UAE -Maltese Joint Committee in Abu Dhabi. The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Ahmed bin Ali Al -Sayegh, Minister of State, and His Excellency Dr. Ian Burg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism in the Republic of Malta, with the participation of senior officials from both countries.

The committee’s discussions focused on pushing bilateral partnerships led in major strategic sectors, which included investment, digital economy, agriculture, electronic government services, culture, renewable energy and climate change, health care, pharmaceutical industries techniques in space, education, higher education, and tourism.

The two sides also reviewed the opportunities for cooperation in areas such as the exchange of best practices in the field of combating terrorist financing, judicial cooperation, and cybersecurity, in addition to coordinating efforts at the bilateral and multi -party levels.

During the session, His Excellency Al -Sayegh praised the close and advanced relations between the UAE and Malta, praising the joint cooperation that brings the two countries in various fields.

In his opening speech, His Excellency said: “The start of the work of the first session of the UAE-Joint Multi Committee reflects our mutual commitment to deepening the existing bilateral relations and expanding them to include additional areas of common concern.”

The session dealt with ways to create effective mechanisms to advance commercial exchange, enhance the role of the public and private sectors in advancing cooperation and opening promising future horizons.

The two sides affirmed their keenness to unify bilateral efforts towards a comprehensive vision of prosperity, and to achieve sustainable economic development.

For his part, His Excellency Dr. Iyan Burg expressed in his speech the aspiration of the Republic of Malta to raise the level of economic relations with the UAE, and to expand areas of cooperation in the traditional and emerging sectors alike.

The session concluded with the official signature of the joint committee’s minutes, in a pivotal step in the path of strengthening the partnership between the UAE and Malta.
