المملكة: “Education” adopts evaluation alternatives for people with speech disorders and exempt students of stuttering from oral skills
Within the approved student evaluation regulations, the Ministry of Education emphasized the observance of individual differences in the logical and communicative capabilities of students, by approves the exemption of a student who suffers from stuttering from evaluating oral sterile skills, and opening the way for alternative means of communication that take into account his health conditions and actual capabilities.
The amendments also included the availability of alternative media to students with severe disturbances in speech and language, or those who suffer from cerebral palsy, and from their rule, and the established means include: sign language, finger -alphabet, alternative language (Plus), PECS, and eye fingerprint tracking devices, in addition to auxiliary technology tools.
Taking into account the special requirements
The regulation stressed the importance of not comparing the student with disturbances to pronounce his colleagues in public education during the evaluation, and not holding him accountable for the mistakes resulting from his disorder, with the option of replacing oral tests with written tests when needed, in coordination with the Student Guidance Committee, and with the participation of a specialist in communication disorders in the evaluation process.
In an independent item, the regulation stipulated the exemption of a student who suffers from the lips or the ceiling of the crushed palate if his words are incomprehensible to the listener, as well as non -verbal students who suffer from total or partial loss of sound, while replacing the answers required by appropriate means of communication, in line with the individual educational plan prepared for each case.
These educational trends reflect the ministry’s keenness to integrate students with linguistic disorders in the educational environment without their burdens that are not commensurate with their characteristics, which enhances the chances of success and fair educational attainment for all.
