Syria: A Commissioner for Human Rights calls for a “bloodshed” in As -Suwayda

Mr. Turk said in a statement issued today, Friday, that the protection of all Syrians should have the maximum priority, and stressed the need for the transitional authorities to ensure accountability and justice from the killings and other grave violations of human rights in the southern city.

The United Nations Human Rights Office said that it had received reliable reports of widespread violations and transgressions, including executions of brief measures, arbitrary killing, kidnappings, private property, and looting of homes.

Among the perpetrators are reported by members of the security forces and members of the interim authorities, in addition to other armed elements from the area, including Druze and Bedouins. This has led to a collective displacement of the residents of the province with a majority. The High Commissioner said it “It is necessary to take immediate steps to prevent the recurrence of such violence. Revenge and revenge are not the solution.”

He added that his office received accounts of Syrians living in fear of their lives and the lives of their loved ones, and stressed that the deployment of state security forces “Safety and protection should be achieved, not fear and violence.”

He also expressed concern about the reports that civilian victims of the Israeli air strikes had fallen into As -Suwayda, Daraa and central Damascus, and confirmed that such attacks are subjected to civilians and must stop.

Mr. Turk called for a comprehensive, urgent and independent audit process to ensure that those responsible for human rights violations and abuses are not integrated into the official security or military structures in Syria. He stressed that this “A vital step in rebuilding public confidence and pushing the broader transition in Syria.”

He also called on the Syrian interim authorities to publish the results of the investigations of the National Committee for Facts in the violence that the coastal areas witnessed earlier this year, and added: “Conducting honest and comprehensive investigations in recent violence would enhance the current transitional justice process on a larger scale, ensuring accountability for previous violations and abuses. Syrians deserve the truth and accountability and guarantees that such violations are not repeated.”

Al -Turk said that the fall of the previous regime formed a moment of hope for the Syrians A better future based on human rights. He stressed that it is the responsibility of the transitional authorities “Proof that this chapter will be the title of rights, justice and equal protection for all.”
