A bicycle accident that turns Al -Habsi into a world champion in Paralympic shooting

A bicycle accident in 2009 was a turning point in the life of Muhammad Al -Habsi (39 years), after he was broken in the spine that forced him to sit on a wheelchair, but the accident was not the end, but rather the beginning of a new chapter leading to achieve a historic achievement, after it was crowned on September 18th as the world champion in the Paralympic shooting (dirt), achieving a new global number.
Al -Habsi began his career with the sports owners of the Al Ain Club gate for people of determination, where he practiced several sports, began with athletics, then the shish weapon duel, and the wheelchair basket, along with the shuttle of Al -Shozen, during which he achieved prominent achievements.
Al -Habsi told «Emirates Today»: “The accident brought me into a stage of frustration after I had a fracture of the spine, and the long treatment that ended in a wheelchair, but a friend’s advice was enough to change the course of my life, when he encouraged me to join the Al Ain Club of the Zayed Higher Foundation for the owners of determination, there I discovered talents that I did not know that I owned it. International forums, the most recent of which is the World Championship title in Berno, and achieve a new global number. ”
He explained that his friend’s advice focused on the fact that entering the club will open the horizon for it to challenge the self, noting that many who face the most severe disabilities have been able to fulfill their dreams, which opened the door for him to start in his sporting career with the owners of determination since 2009.
He added, “I started playing athletics, then the shish weapon, and eight years ago, I joined the wheelchair basket and shooting, and I currently represent the state teams in both sports.”
Al -Habsi, who is married and the father of five children, pointed out that the passion for achievement is what drives him to continue, explaining: “In the Shish weapon, the Asian Championship in 2014 in South Korea was achieved, and has achieved several achievements in the basketball of the wheelchairs at the Gulf, Arab and regional levels. I also participated with the national team in the 2023 World Championship in Dubai, and I am one of the players of the basketball team (3 against 3), who achieved seventh place last month in the World Championship in South Africa, before I turned directly to focus on the World Paralympic Shooting Championship ».
He stressed that success in more than one sport requires a great commitment, whether in the food program or training, adding: “My current work is an employee of the Zayed Foundation for the owners of determination that makes it easier for me, especially in the sport of shooting in which I have an honorable march, where the bronze of the world championship in Italy in 2021, before this month was crowned with the gold of the Berno Championship in the Czechs.”
Regarding his future ambitions, Al -Habsi said: “I look forward to continuing to achieve the achievements, especially in the sport of shots, and I hope to include them in the Paralympic Games in 2028, so that I can compete for the Olympic glory that every athlete dreams around the world, and to continue to return the favor to my dear country by raising the Emirates flag in the largest sports forums.”
It is not impossible for the children of the Emirates
Al -Habsi sent a message to his colleagues from the owners of determination, saying: “God loves us in the UAE, which is one of the world leading countries in supporting the owners of determination, and accelerating their societal integration. And I say to everyone who faces a challenge: Nothing is impossible for the people of the Emirates. Number (1) is the permanent goal that we aspire to. ”
