Sharjah Cultural Forum sessions

Sharjah, 9 October / WAM / The Cultural Office of the Sharjah Family and Community Council launched the second edition of the Sharjah Cultural Forum, “The Abbasid Era… a story connecting paper and a pen,” which is being held under the patronage of the wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, Chairwoman of the Sharjah Family and Community Council.
The first session of the “Forum Councils” was launched under the title: The most prominent cultural features of the Abbasid era, influential cultural symbols, Haroun Al-Rashid between reality and the opinion of orientalists, and was presented by Awad Al-Darmaki, who highlighted the necessity of returning to our bright history and benefiting not only from modern books, but it is necessary to read history constantly so that we can read our reality and advance our authentic culture and values.
The second session was entitled “The Most Prominent Cultural Features of the Abbasid Era” with the participation of Dr. Muhammad Al-Maztouri, Dr. Hessa Al-Ketbi, Issa Youssef, and Dr. Atef Mansour.
While the second day of the forum witnessed two cultural sessions at the Al-Hirah Literary Council, the first was titled, The Flourishing of Human Sciences in the Abbasid Era, with the participation of the poet Dr. Shihab Ghanem and the writer and novelist Ghaith Al-Hosani.
Dr. Shihab Ghanem spoke about translating poetry in the era of scientific prosperity, while Ghaith Al Hosani spoke about philosophy in the Abbasid era and its influence on Greek culture.
The third session was entitled Arts in the Abbasid Era, with the participation of the poet Hamda Al-Awadi and the calligrapher Adnan Al-Sharifi.
Al-Awadi spoke about the art of Maqama, which flourished in the Abbasid era, while the calligrapher Al-Sharifi spoke about the importance of Arabic calligraphy, which witnessed great development during the Abbasid era.
