المملكة: The Roads Authority reveals the highway number code…this is how you know your direction


Revealed The General Authority for Roads revealed the approved mechanism for numbering highways in the Kingdom, explaining that the numbers appearing on the signboards are not random, but rather are part of a precise system that determines the directions of the roads and their starting points, with the aim of enhancing safety, facilitating movement, and providing a distinguished driving experience for road users.

Classification of Main Roads

The Authority explained that the system classifies the main roads into two parts: transverse roads. It extends from the west of the Kingdom to its east, and another longitudinal one extends from north to south. It carries Transverse roads have even numbers starting with the number 10 and multiplying up to the number 80, the most prominent of which are Route 40, which connects Jeddah to Dammam, and Route 80, which extends from Duba to Jdaidet Arar.

On the other hand, longitudinal roads have odd numbers starting with the number 5 and multiplying up to the number 95. Route 5, which extends from Jizan to Haql, and Route 15, which connects Sharurah. And Tabuk is one of the most important transport hubs in this classification.

Road network planning

The authority confirmed that the role of this system is not limited to Guiding drivers is not only an effective strategic tool in planning the road network, determining its future needs, and enhancing connectivity between the various cities and regions of the Kingdom in a systematic and organized manner.

These efforts come within the framework of the Authority’s endeavor to achieve national goals for the road sector, which are based on raising the level of safety and quality, as the Kingdom aims to reach sixth place globally in the road quality index, Reducing the death rate resulting from accidents to less than 5 cases per 100,000 people by 2030.
