Speaker of Parliament: What happened over the past two years has proven that there is no just peace without the establishment of an independent Palestinian state

Within the framework of the 151st General Assembly meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in Geneva, Counselor Dr. Hanafi Jabali, Speaker of the House of Representatives, participated in the work of the thirty-ninth emergency conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, where he delivered a speech, the highlights of which were as follows

At the beginning of the speech, the Counselor indicated Dr. Hanafi Jabali, Speaker of the House of Representatives, pointed out that the Arab nation passed a difficult test over two years in its central cause, the Palestinian issue, with the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip exposed to a brutal aggression that carried within it malicious plans to liquidate the Palestinian cause forever, adding that today we are faced with a glimmer of hope that illuminated the darkness of the past two years for us by reaching the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement to stop the war in Gaza and hosting the Sharm El-Sheikh International Summit. And the historic peace conference, in which world leaders participated, to announce the end of one of the most dangerous stages faced by the Palestinian issue and our entire region.

During the speech, Chancellor Dr. Hanafi Jabali stressed that what happened during the past two years proved beyond a doubt that there is no just and lasting peace in the Middle East without the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967. Its capital is East Jerusalem, stressing that Egypt believes that the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement to end the war in Gaza is not the end of the road, but rather the beginning of a new path that must be built upon by restoring international momentum to the Palestinian issue and reviving the path of just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution.

At the conclusion of his speech, Counselor Dr. Hanafi Jabali stressed that Arab parliaments should be a basic pillar of Arab solidarity. And an audible voice for just and legitimate Arab rights, calling for Arab parliamentary movements with the aim of mobilizing support for the Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement, consolidating its gains, and starting from it towards reviving the path of peace, with at its heart the preservation of the legitimate and just rights of the brotherly Palestinian people to establish their independent state in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy.
