Governor of Cairo: The past decades bear witness to the depth of Egyptian-Japanese relations

The Governor of Cairo, Dr. Ibrahim Saber, stressed that the past decades have witnessed the depth and distinction of Egyptian-Japanese relations, as they witnessed continuous cooperation in the fields of culture, arts, education, and sports, which contributed to enhancing understanding and rapprochement between our two friendly peoples, and that we are proud that Cairo and Tokyo are a successful model of cooperation between major global capitals, based on mutual respect and a shared vision for a sustainable urban future.
This came during a meeting with Dr. Ibrahim. Saber, today, Saturday, with the Governor of the Japanese capital, Tokyo, Yuriko Koike, and her accompanying delegation, as part of her visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt to participate in the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, in order to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the signing of the twinning agreement between Cairo and Tokyo. On the occasion of the thirty-five anniversary of the signing of the fraternity agreement between Cairo and Tokyo in 1990, that agreement laid the foundations of a solid friendship and fruitful cooperation between the two cities in various fields.

He referred to the fruitful meeting he had with the Mayor of Tokyo last November on the sidelines of the twelfth World Urban Forum, which Cairo hosted last year, during which they exchanged views on issues of sustainable urban development and ways to deepen cooperation between cities. The Governor of Cairo pointed out that today’s visit also coincides with the historical event represented by the official opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, Which is considered one of the largest cultural projects in the world, and a new symbol of international cooperation in preserving human heritage, appreciating in this context the prominent role played by the Japanese government, represented by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), as one of the largest and most important contributors to building this great civilizational edifice, which reflects the depth of the historical relations that bring together Egypt and Japan, as the Japanese International Cooperation Authority office in Egypt “JICA” was established. In 1977, it became the authority entrusted with supervising cooperation between the two countries. The most important cooperation projects between Egypt and Japan are the establishment of the Egyptian Opera House, the Cairo University Specialized Children’s Hospital, Abu Al-Rish Al-Japanese Hospital, the fourth line of the subway, the Egyptian-Japanese University for Science and Technology, and finally the Grand Egyptian Museum, and many others.
