"National Center for Human Rights" Welcoming the decision of the UN Committee to maintain its “A” classification

The National Council for Human Rights welcomes the decision of the Subcommittee on Accreditation of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (SCA – GANHRI) to maintain the Council’s classification in the “A” category, a decision that reflects international appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to strengthen the human rights system and develop the performance of its national institutions in accordance with the Paris Principles.

 

The Council affirmed that this decision reflects confidence in its independence and effectiveness, It appreciates the continuous efforts it is making in the areas of promoting civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights, following up on complaints, visiting places of detention, and interacting with civil society organizations, as well as spreading the culture of human rights at the national and regional levels.

 

 

The Council indicated that the UN Committee praised the steps taken by the Council in this direction, and the continuous coordination with the relevant authorities in the country to complete the discussion of the draft legislative amendment before Parliament before the end of General, stressing that these steps represent a positive model of constructive institutional interaction between the state and its national human rights bodies.

 

 

The Council expresses its deep appreciation to its partners in state institutions, parliament, and civil society for their support and the fruitful cooperation that contributed to this achievement, stressing its commitment to continuing the serious work to protect rights and freedoms in accordance with the Egyptian Constitution and the international agreements to which Egypt has acceded, and to following up on the implementation of relevant United Nations recommendations. Maintaining the Council’s classification in Category “A” is considered In international recognition of its independence and institutional development, and that it is an effective national model for partnership between the state and society in supporting the process of human rights reform and enhancing Egypt’s position on the regional and international arena in the field of human rights.
