"Earth protectors".. A competition launched by health care during the Authority’s annual meeting

Dr. Ahmed Al-Sabki, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Health Care and General Supervisor of the Comprehensive Health Insurance Project, and Dr. Mohamed Ziadeh, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the “Earth Protectors” Foundation, launched the “Earth Protectors for Sustainability in the Health Sector” competition, during the activities of the Authority’s sixth annual international forum, held under the patronage and presence of the Prime Minister, in the presence of Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister. Environment.

 

The Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of the Environment confirmed that the state’s continued support for the health sector directly integrates with sustainability efforts and confronting climate change, as health is one of the basic pillars of environmental security and sustainable development, and she added that the integration between state ministries, relevant bodies, the private sector and civil society institutions establishes an advanced national model for health and environmental sustainability that reflects the vision of the political leadership towards a safer and healthier future for the citizen. Dr. Ahmed Al-Sabki indicated that the competition targets all hospitals whose capacity exceeds 40 beds, in various governmental, private and private sectors, which reflects the comprehensiveness of the initiative and the wide scope of its impact. He added that the competition offers financial and moral prizes to stimulate participation and improve the environmental and social performance of health institutions, stressing that the partnership with the “Earth Protectors” Foundation It represents a model for the integration of visions between national institutions and civil society towards a green and sustainable health sector.

The Chairman of the Authority stated that the judging committee includes an elite group of international and local experts to ensure the highest levels of transparency and professionalism in evaluating entries. He added that the competition is organized under the auspices of a number of ministries, most notably: Health and Population, Local Development, Social Solidarity, Education, and Higher Education, which reflects the integration of state agencies in supporting the principles of health sustainability.

He pointed out that the Public Authority for Health Care has solid experience in In this field, it culminated in winning the Gold Award of the International Hospital Federation (IHF) in 2024 in the “Excellence in Social and Environmental Responsibility” category, considering this award an international recognition of the leadership of the Egyptian experience in integrating sustainability standards within the health sector.

For his part, Dr. Mohamed Ziadeh, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the “Earth Protectors” Foundation, stressed that the competition represents a turning point in promoting public health, by transforming the 17 sustainable development goals. To measurable indicators within health facilities, to ensure raising the efficiency of services and improving the quality of institutional performance.

He explained that the evaluation criteria are based on 17 main indicators derived from the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including environmental, social and economic dimensions.

 He added: "We aim to enhance justice and comprehensiveness in health care, and develop training programs that contribute to raising the efficiency of cadres, as an essential element in the shift towards sustainable environmental management within facilities. It is worth noting that the sixth annual international forum of the General Authority for Health Care was launched, coinciding with the 6th anniversary of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s launch of the comprehensive health insurance system in Port Said Governorate on November 26, 2019, while the forum will be held this year under the patronage and presence of Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, during the days of November 26 and 27, 2025 in the New Capital, under the slogan: “From Vision to Expansion: We raise health care to international standards.”
