Palestine delegate to the Arab League: Israel committed genocide against the Palestinians

Ambassador Muhannad Al-Aklouk, Palestine’s permanent representative to the League of Arab States, confirmed that the Palestinian people are facing the most serious crimes committed by Israel over more than two years, most notably genocide and systematic ethnic cleansing. He called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and take action to stop the crimes of the occupation and hold those responsible for them accountable.

 

This came during Ambassador Al-Aklouk’s speech at the celebration organized by the General Secretariat of the League of Nations. Al Arabiya Today to commemorate the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, in the presence of the Secretary-General of the League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and a number of ambassadors, permanent delegates, representatives of religious institutions, and leaders of the Palestinian community in Egypt.

 

Ambassador Al-Aklouk stressed that this occasion comes at a moment when all of humanity is subjected to a severe test, in the face of the “continuous massacre.” committed by Israel against the Palestinian people, saying: “What is happening in Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem represents “documented crimes carried out intentionally and consciously, in light of an unprecedented international inability to stop them.”

 

He explained that over the past two years, Israel has killed and injured 11% of the population of the Gaza Strip, and destroyed about 85% of its buildings and infrastructure. Pointing out that a quarter of a million Palestinians are considered direct victims of genocide, in addition to hundreds of thousands of indirect victims as a result of destroying all necessities of life, preventing food, medicine and infant formula, and turning humanitarian aid into “death traps”. Arrest, house demolition, confiscation and displacement in the West Bank, where Israel controls 82% of the West Bank, and continues to expand settlements and impose an apartheid regime through more than 1,200 military checkpoints.

 

Ambassador Al-Aklouk addressed the escalating violations in occupied Jerusalem, especially the daily raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque, the policies of Judaization, the withdrawal of identities, restrictions on the population, and the closure of schools and offices. UNRWA, in addition to serious attacks against Palestinian prisoners, referring to "brutal violations" committed against them, amounting to torture, starvation, and deprivation of sleep and care, in practices he described as “an official program of the Israeli government.”

 

Ambassador Al-Aklouk stressed that the continuation of the occupation’s crimes without deterrence has transformed Israel from an occupying force into an apartheid regime and then into a genocidal force, benefiting from “international complacency.” Which provided it with political immunity for decades.

 

The Palestinian representative called on the international community to move from the stage of describing crimes to imposing direct sanctions on Israel, including stopping the supply of weapons and reviewing political, economic and cultural relations with it. He also called for support for the International Court of Justice in the case of genocide, and for cooperation with the International Criminal Court to implement arrest warrants against the leaders of the occupation.

 

The ambassador called for the inclusion of settlement groups He added that “there is no peace without ending the occupation.”

 

He pointed out that the international recognition of the State of Palestine, which has reached 160 countries, represents an important step, but it requires measures that embody the international commitment to ending the occupation. He called on countries that have not yet recognized it to accelerate recognition and grant Palestine full membership in the United Nations.
