"Women’s Union" He concludes a course within the national program for qualifying national cadres in the field of women’s and girls’ rights

ABU DHABI, 4th December, 2018 (WAM) – Under the generous patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Emirates”, President of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, the General Women’s Union concluded a training of trainers course on women’s rights, which comes within the national program for qualifying national cadres in the field of women’s and girls’ rights, in partnership with the Permanent Committee for Human Rights and the regional office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in the East. Middle and North Africa.

This course is one of the main stations in the national program, which aims to prepare a specialized national team capable of leading training initiatives in the field of women’s and girls’ rights, supporting national efforts in consolidating a culture of human rights, and enhancing institutional interaction with relevant international mechanisms.

The course included training participants on an integrated set of conceptual and practical skills in the field of women’s rights and human rights, which included recalling the most important international standards regulating women’s rights, reviewing the international mechanisms protecting them, in addition to delving deeper into the basic principles of training in the field of human rights.

The training work also included developing a training session plan, identifying training needs and objectives, in addition to designing and dividing the sessions, preparing accompanying activities, and formulating the training content according to solid professional foundations.

The program also dealt with developing the skills of female trainers by identifying the characteristics of a successful trainer and the requirements of his role, and learning about modern training methodologies and techniques, both theoretical and practical.

The trainees also participated in applied activities within work groups to prepare training sessions, followed by a presentation of the groups’ output, leading to a comprehensive evaluation of the training activities and the entire program. The course concluded with an evaluation session for the participants, which enhances the readiness of national cadres to assume a leadership role in the field of human rights work and community development.

Her Excellency Noura Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Secretary General of the General Women’s Union, confirmed that the implementation of this course embodies the vision of the wise leadership and the directives of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Emirates” in promoting the rights of women and girls and empowering national cadres, noting that the course represents an important step to prepare Emirati female trainers capable of transferring knowledge and expanding the impact of the program within institutions and society.

Her Excellency added that the national program for qualifying national cadres reflects the UAE’s commitment to promoting gender balance and empowering women, in line with the UAE Constitution, national legislation, and international agreements, most notably the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.

For her part, Anoud Youssef Abdel Mohsen, director of the project to qualify national cadres in the field of women’s and girls’ rights at the General Women’s Union, confirmed that the training of trainers course represents a pivotal stage in the program, as specialized content was designed to build the capabilities of participants to develop training skills, interact with national and international frameworks concerned with women’s rights, and use data to support planning and decision-making processes.

The training course contributed to qualifying a group of female cadres capable of implementing training programs for civil society agencies and government institutions, which contributes to spreading the culture of women’s rights, enhancing community participation, and supporting the UAE’s efforts to achieve the fifth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals related to gender balance and the empowerment of all women and girls.

The General Women’s Union continues to implement the advanced stages of the national program for qualifying national cadres, including applied training in preparing reports, analyzing legislation from a gender perspective, and interacting with United Nations mechanisms, leading to building a specialized national network that constitutes an important source of national efforts in the field of human rights.
