Egypt joins the innovative platform “Knowledge Center for Comprehensive Health Insurance”

Egypt joined the Knowledge Center for Universal Health Coverage (UHC Hub), which was launched by the Government of Japan in cooperation with the World Bank Group and the World Health Organization, which is an innovative platform aimed at supporting policy makers at the national level in low-income and middle-income countries, through capacity building and knowledge exchange programs.
This came during the High-Level Forum for Universal Health Coverage held in the Japanese capital, Tokyo, in which the Arab Republic of Egypt participates, with a delegation. It is headed by Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation and Governor of Egypt at the World Bank, with the participation of Dr. Ahmed Al-Sobky, Chairman of the Health Care Authority, and May Farid, Executive Director of the Comprehensive Health Insurance Authority.
The center is the result of cooperation between the Japanese government, the World Bank Group, and the World Health Organization, to advance countries’ efforts towards achieving universal health coverage. It also works to enhance investment in health systems as a basic strategy for human development, economic growth, job creation, and increasing the ability to Resilience.
Bringing together senior officials in the fields of health and finance, the Knowledge Center seeks to support national policies in order to improve, harmonize and effectively finance health systems locally and internationally. In its first edition, the program includes Egypt, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria, and the Philippines.
Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, confirmed that Egypt’s accession to the Knowledge Center for Universal Health Coverage represents an important step to strengthen our national efforts in building a more efficient health system, as the Center represents a rich platform for exchanging international experiences, benefiting from best practices in financing health services, and developing evidence-based policies. And supporting the capabilities of workers in the health sector.
Through this cooperation, we are working to accelerate the implementation of our plans towards achieving comprehensive health coverage, ensuring that every citizen has access to high-quality health services without financial burdens, and at the same time enhancing the readiness of the health system for future challenges.
During her participation in the forum, the Minister reviewed the Egyptian experience in the field of comprehensive health insurance, noting that the health sector is not only one of the most important national priorities. As part of the social protection system, but rather as a basic pillar for achieving comprehensive development. This trend has been linked to a variety of initiatives and programmes.
Al-Mashat referred to the implementation of the comprehensive health insurance system in cooperation with the World Bank and other development partners, as well as the state’s launch of a number of presidential initiatives that played a decisive role in expanding the scope of health services provided to citizens in various parts of the republic.
