Prime Minister: Egypt confirms its full commitment to enhancing cooperation with FAO

Today, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, delivered a speech during his participation, on behalf of  President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, at the opening session of the Third World Conference of Representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in the New Capital, began by welcoming all attendees to their second country, Egypt, and to the New Capital, which has become a symbol of the modern Egyptian vision and national capabilities in construction and development, and conveyed to the attendees sincere greetings  The President of the Republic, and his wishes for success in the work of the conference.

 

During his speech, the Prime Minister indicated that Egypt’s hosting of the third global conference of representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization reflects the Egyptian state’s firm commitment to supporting the organization and its pivotal role in enhancing global food security, developing agricultural and food systems, and supporting the most needy countries in facing humanitarian challenges. And economic.

 

 The Prime Minister also extended his sincere appreciation to  Dr. Qu Dongyu, Director-General of FAO, for his decision to hold this important conference in Cairo, and for his continued support for strengthening cooperation between Egypt and the organization, saying: " I had the honor of receiving His Excellency on several occasions, whether in Cairo or during the meetings held at the organization’s headquarters in the Italian capital, Rome. These were fruitful meetings that dealt with ways to develop agricultural food systems, enhance agricultural innovation, and support communities most affected by crises. These meetings participated in opening new horizons for cooperation and directing joint programs aimed at supporting sustainable agriculture, combating poverty and hunger, and enhancing the ability to withstand changes. “.

 

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly also stressed that Egypt has a long history of strategic cooperation with “FAO”, as it was one of the first countries to host an office for the organization outside its headquarters, in 1947, a cooperation extending over many decades that resulted in the implementation of dozens of projects supporting agricultural development, capacity building, improving irrigation systems, developing value chains, and improving early warning and management capabilities. Risks.

 

The Prime Minister indicated that Egypt, believing in its regional role, was keen to be a major actor in supporting Arab and African food security, by transferring expertise and advanced technologies to sister countries, implementing specialized training programs for agricultural cadres, in addition to active participation in formulating the organization’s regional priorities, along with hosting technical and regional meetings, in addition to providing direct support to the countries most in need in the areas of agricultural production and management. Resources.

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly pointed out that, in line with this, the Egyptian state believes that regional integration is the best way to confront the increasing challenges facing food systems, especially in light of climate change, economic crises, and global disruptions in supply chains, which affect the rise in prices of goods and production requirements.

The Prime Minister stressed that today’s meeting in Cairo reflects the spirit of “One FAO,” which is the vision. Which began at the first meeting in Rome in 2023, and was consolidated during the second meeting in Bangkok in 2024, and contributed to unifying efforts between the organization’s various regional offices, and ensuring harmony of work with the rest of the United Nations organizations, including the World Food Program and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

At the same time, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly stressed that the second global meeting in Bangkok demonstrated the strategic value of this gathering, whether by discussing performance reports, or by exchanging experiences, or identifying the challenges facing the offices. The Prime Minister pointed out that the “FAO” logo This year, “Hand in Hand for Food and a Better Future,” stresses the importance of collective action to enhance countries’ resilience and ensure a secure food future for future generations. It is a slogan that is fully consistent with Egypt’s Vision 2030, and with the state’s efforts to expand climate-smart agriculture, raise the efficiency of resource use, empower rural women, and strengthen international partnerships.

In this context, he stressed Egypt’s full support for the “Hand in Hand” initiative. Launched by the Director-General of FAO, which aims to raise the level of the most fragile sectors, enhance agricultural investments, increase productivity and improve livelihoods.

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly indicated that in light of the increasing humanitarian challenges, Egypt confirms – Based on its regional role and moral responsibility – The importance of United Nations organizations, led by FAO, playing a more effective role in supporting countries and societies that are exposed to severe disruptions in food chains, most notably Gaza, Sudan, and other areas facing worsening humanitarian crises.

The Prime Minister concluded his speech by saying: “The Arab Republic of Egypt, the government and people, renews its welcome to all of you, and confirms its full commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Organization.” “FAO” and support international efforts aimed at developing more flexible and sustainable food systems and achieving global food security, adding: I wish you fruitful meetings and discussions and coming up with recommendations that support the food security system and improve the standard of living for small farmers in different countries of the world.
