Real Madrid is on the cusp of sacking Alonso and is looking for an alternative

The Spanish newspaper “El Mundo” revealed that Real Madrid is on the cusp of dismissing the team’s coach, Xabi Alonso, following the team’s 2-0 defeat last night at the Bernabeu against Celta Vigo.

This disastrous result and the miserable performance that preceded it prompted Real Madrid’s leadership to hold an emergency meeting to discuss Alonso’s situation.

According to the “Timtalk” website, Alonso lost control of the dressing room at Real Madrid, and after narrowly escaping a meeting held in the early morning hours today while retaining his position, press reports indicated that he would be dismissed if he loses to Manchester City on Wednesday, with Jurgen Klopp preferred as a substitute.

While opinion was divided among those making the decision, allowing Alonso to cling to his job, the outcome of the meeting is claimed to be that Alonso now has one match to save his job: Manchester City on Wednesday.

Thus, old enemy Pep Guardiola can once again overtake Real Madrid by being directly responsible for Los Blancos’ dismissal of their technical director.

“The early hours of Monday morning were long at the Santiago Bernabéu,” El Mundo reported.

She added: “Real Madrid’s 0-2 defeat to Celta Vigo, combined with the team’s lackluster performance in the first hour, their floundering in the closing stages, and the complete lack of quality football throughout the night, left Xabi Alonso in an awkward position.”

“According to sources close to the newspaper, the club’s senior management met for several hours after the match in the Bernabeu offices to decide whether the coach would remain in his position.”

“Real Madrid has only managed to achieve one win in its last five matches in the Spanish League, and it went from leading the league by five points over Barcelona to trailing its biggest rival by four points. All this in the space of a little over a month.”

“The meeting, which lasted after one in the morning, led to one result: the match against Manchester City is Alonso’s last chance; the relationship between the dressing room and the coach is beyond repair.”

“Real Madrid has already begun scanning the market in search of an alternative. Two names stand out on the list of preferred candidates: Zinedine Zidane and Jurgen Klopp.”

Liverpool legend Klopp is currently Head of Global Football at Red Bull. The German has shown little desire to return to the pressures and tensions of training, although an offer to coach what could be considered the biggest club in the world would undoubtedly be difficult to ignore.

Meanwhile, Zidane could take over temporarily until the end of the current season. A contract signing for longer than that is unlikely, with Zidane widely understood to have his eyes on succeeding Didier Deschamps as France coach after the 2026 World Cup.

In the wake of the defeat to Celta Vigo, they wrote: “Xabi Alonso stood on the Real Madrid stage with a sullen expression and a lost look, desperately trying to find a solution to a problem that continues to worsen.”

The newspaper “Marca” added: “The defensive walls thwarted all attempts, and Real Madrid was unable to impose its style against tightly packed opponents, which highlights that the coach has not yet found the formula to decode the team in decisive moments.”

She continued: “The blow is not just a statistical one: losing their unbeaten record at home before hosting Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City sends a worrying warning about Real Madrid’s ability to maintain its solidity and about the increasing pressure on Alonso.”
