Dubai, 9 December / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum reviewed the strategic plan of the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, and its future projects to develop the road network and mass transportation system.
His Highness also inspected the Authority’s unified control center, which is one of the largest and most modern control centers in the world, in terms of employing smart technologies, monitoring and organizing traffic and transportation, and managing events, emergencies and crises. The Authority is the first government agency in the Middle East to manage all means of transportation in one facility.
Upon his arrival at the Unified Control Center, His Highness was received by His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Authority. At the beginning of the visit, His Highness inspected the facilities of the Unified Control Center, which is distinguished by its ability to control, control and integrate all different current and future means of transport, and properly plan transportation to meet the various transportation challenges in the emirate. It plays a major role in organizing transportation during important events and exhibitions in the emirate, supporting central decision-making for all different means of transportation, managing emergencies and crises, and raising the efficiency of service management. The center is responsible for monitoring and managing the movement of more than 28,000 means of transportation, and recording and analyzing 4.4 billion movement data that is recorded daily. The center is linked to more than 10,000 cameras covering most of the road network and public transportation. The main control room is also linked to more than 34 technical systems, and their integration can be achieved in real time, in addition to using artificial intelligence in managing accidents and crises. The technical system in the center is unique in its self-learning feature (Machine Learning), which ensures speed of response and reducing… Human error.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum listened to an explanation from His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, about the strategic plan of the Roads and Transport Authority, its vision in achieving global leadership in easy and sustainable mobility, and the authority’s efforts in developing the infrastructure of the road network and the mass transportation system, which includes a road network with a length of more than 25 thousand kilometers – lanes, more than 1,000 bridges and tunnels for vehicles, and 177 bridges and tunnels for pedestrians, while the system includes… Mass transportation: a 100-kilometre metro and tram network with 64 stations, in addition to a fleet of public transportation buses, numbering more than 1,380 buses, 13,900 taxis, and 210 marine means of transportation. This system transports 2.2 million passengers daily.
His Highness also listened to an explanation about the Dubai Metro Blue Line project, which is 30 kilometers long and includes 14 stations, linking the Red and Green Lines, and serving residential, development and industrial areas, with an estimated population of about one million people in 2040, and providing a direct link between those areas and Dubai International Airport in 20 minutes.
During the visit, His Highness was briefed on the latest developments in the air taxi project, which the Authority is implementing in cooperation with the companies (Jobi Aviation Inc.) and (Skyports Infrastructure), where the program for flight tests and operations is being developed on a regular basis. Last June, (Jobi) completed a series of manned test flights of the electric air taxi for vertical take-off and landing in Margham, during which the efficiency of the air taxi’s performance in local environmental conditions was verified. In preparation for the start of providing the service to passengers in 2026, he also reviewed the project to operate self-driving taxis, where the authority signed agreements with international companies specialized in the field of self-driving transportation, to begin the trial phase in the Emirate of Dubai, in preparation for launching the commercial operation of the service in the first quarter of 2026.
