The Arab Council for Childhood and Development concludes a childhood-friendly media workshop in the Sultanate of Oman

The media professionals participating in the “Childhood-Friendly Media” workshop stressed the importance of the role of the media in advocating and supporting children’s rights, and the necessity of integrating its role with the roles of upbringing institutions, especially the family, and activating and enacting national legislation related to childhood that can achieve a balance between benefiting from digital opportunities and protecting children.

With the call for a qualitative development in the media’s handling of children’s rights issues, and the provision of Arabic digital content suitable for children in keeping with the tremendous development witnessed by the media. This came at the conclusion of the workshop, in the Omani capital, Muscat, which was held in cooperation with the Arab Council. For Childhood and Development and the Omani Ministry of Social Development, and in partnership with the League of Arab States and the Arab Gulf Program for Development “AGFUND” The Omani Ministry of Information, the UNICEF office in the Sultanate of Oman, and Sultan Qaboos University, with the participation of more than 30 media professionals from various Omani media outlets and the media sectors of relevant ministries and institutions.

 

The conclusion of the workshop witnessed the handing over of certificates under the auspices and in the presence of Maani Bint Abdullah Al Busaidiyah, Director General of Family Development at the Ministry of Social Development, and the presence of Eng. Muhammad Redha Fawzi, Director of Research, Documentation and Knowledge Development at the Arab Council for Childhood and Development, Minister Plenipotentiary Lubna Azzam, Director of the Family and Childhood Administration at the League of Arab States, Asiya Al Balushi, Acting Director General of the Media Training Center at the Omani Ministry of Information, and Dr. Bilal Al-Kiswani, Director of Programs at the UNICEF office in the Sultanate of Oman.

 

The workshop continued in the period 8 – December 10, 2025, and discussed a number of issues with the participation of Arab experts, including the topics of children’s rights, children and digitization, in addition to presenting the professional principles for the Arab media’s treatment of children’s rights issues and a guide to correcting incorrect terminology circulating about children in the media, as the participants expressed their keenness to adhere to them in light of their professional responsibility and to achieve a child-friendly media.

 

It is noteworthy that this workshop comes as one of a series of workshops. Directed to media professionals, it was implemented in 14 Arab countries, within the framework of implementing the Media Observatory for the Rights of the Arab Child project, which is one of the strategic projects of the Arab Council for Childhood and Development in cooperation with the League of Arab States and the Arab Gulf Program for Development “AGFUND”.
