A shocking death shakes Fiorentina

The businessman and owner of the Italian club Fiorentina, the American of Italian origin, Rocco Commisso, has died at the age of 76, according to what the club announced today.
Commisso, who previously owned the New York Cosmos, was the founder of Medicom Communications, one of the largest cable television services companies in the United States.
Commisso was born in Italy before moving with his family to the United States as a child, where he built an economic empire that accumulated a fortune estimated by Forbes at $5.9 billion.
“It is with great sadness that the Commisso family announces the death of President Rocco B. Commisso,” Fiorentina’s statement said, explaining that he had undergone “prolonged medical treatment.”
Commisso bought Fiorentina in 2019, and played an active role in its management, investing in a new training center worth 120 million euros, and seeking to return the team to its glory in the 1950s and 1960s, when it won the Italian League title twice and won two European titles.
During his ownership, the team reached three finals: the Italian Cup in 2023, and the Conference League Continental Championship in 2023 and 2024, but he lost them all.
The club, which will celebrate its centenary next season, is going through a difficult season, as it currently occupies eighteenth place, after finishing last season in sixth place in the Italian League.
Commisso also owned Cosmos Club, the former team of Brazilian football legend Pele, between 2017 and 2025.
