The UAE contributes $5 million to support the emergency humanitarian response in Sudan

The Emirates International Aid Agency signed a cooperation agreement with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), under which the UAE will contribute $5 million, with the aim of supporting the Sudan Joint Humanitarian Fund to support the emergency humanitarian response in Sudan, and in a way that contributes to meeting the urgent needs of the groups most affected by the crisis.

In the presence of Dr. Tariq Ahmed Al Ameri, President of the Emirates International Aid Agency, the agreement was signed by Rashid Salem Al Shamsi, Executive Director of Logistical Support at the Emirates International Aid Agency, with Sajida Al Shawa, Director of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the United Arab Emirates.

Tariq Ahmed Al-Amiri said, on this occasion, that in light of the current crisis between the two parties to the conflict in Sudan; The UAE continues its urgent humanitarian response and stands with those affected by this tragic civil war, and supports joint international efforts to meet urgent humanitarian needs and save the lives of those affected in war and conflict zones.

He pointed out that the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sudan and the resulting displacement to neighboring countries in Chad, South Sudan, Uganda and Ethiopia; It requires doubling joint humanitarian efforts and urgent response to ensure rapid early recovery, achieving stability and overcoming difficult living challenges.

For her part, Sajida Al Shawa said: We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the UAE for their generous contribution of $5 million to the Sudan Humanitarian Fund, as this important contribution will contribute to strengthening the collective efforts led by the United Nations, represented by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and its partners to reach the most vulnerable groups affected by the crisis in Sudan, and provide life-saving humanitarian aid in a timely manner and in line with humanitarian principles.

She added that in light of unprecedented humanitarian needs; This contribution reflects the UAE’s firm commitment to the spirit of solidarity and humanitarian leadership, and to ensuring that aid reaches those who need it most.

It is worth noting that the UAE continues its ongoing support for humanitarian relief efforts for the brotherly Sudanese people, within the framework of its firm and permanent commitment to support efforts made to address this catastrophic crisis that Sudan is going through, as the country provided $4.24 billion to Sudan during the past decade (2015-2025), while allocating $784 million in humanitarian aid since the outbreak of the current crisis (2023-2025).

The UAE stresses the importance of collective action with regional and international partners, and the importance of establishing a humanitarian truce that guarantees the protection of civilians, and facilitates the opening of safe corridors for unhindered access of humanitarian aid to those in need to ensure stability and peace for the brotherly Sudanese people.
