CAF is considering increasing the number of African Nations Cup teams to 28 and deciding the date for the 2027 edition.

Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe has put an end to rumors about postponing the next edition of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
He confirmed in official statements following the Executive Committee meeting that the tournament will be held on its previously planned date in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
Motsepe made a surprise regarding the future competition system, as he revealed the existence of serious plans to increase the number of teams participating in the finals from 24 to 28.
Motsepe confirmed that the proposal is under technical and financial study, and no official date has been set for the start of implementing the new increase, but it aims to enhance continental competitiveness.
He added: “There will be further development in the African Cup of Nations in the coming editions.”
It is noteworthy that the next African Cup of Nations will be held between June 19 and July 18, 2027.
