FIFA is moving to oblige teams to include a local young player in matches

FIFA has opened discussions on requiring all professional teams to field at least one local youth player throughout matches, according to what the Associated Press reported.
Yesterday evening, Tuesday, the FIFA Council agreed to try to develop a formal plan within a year, after conducting global consultations with stakeholders.
The agency indicated that the aim of this is to increase playing opportunities for young players sponsored by clubs that usually rely on purchased talent.
FIFA explained that it aims to “establish a regulatory obligation that forces the first club teams to have at least one U-20 or U-21 local player permanently on the field.”
The agency indicated that such a rule would be more stringent than the current rules in local and international club tournaments, including the Champions League, which merely impose specific quotas of local players or coaches within the club on team rosters, without requiring the presence of a young player in a certain category on the field permanently. These rules do not impose any obligation related to selecting players in the starting lineup.
Champions League regulations stipulate that each team roster must include at least eight seats allocated to “locally trained players” out of a maximum of 25 players on the full roster.
