599 male and female players participate in "UAE Muay Thai Championship" Next Friday

Abu Dhabi, May 13 / WAM / The UAE Muaythai Federation announced the launch of the UAE Muaythai Open Championship next Friday and will continue for three days at Mubadala Dome at Al Jazira Sports Club, with a wide participation of 599 male and female players representing 75 clubs, while male and female players compete in 86 weight categories, under the supervision of 38 referees.

Weighing and medical examinations will take place today at the federation’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi, and at the Tiger Kickboxing Club in Dubai, and the competitions will begin next Friday, starting at two in the afternoon, for age groups from 8 to 16 years.

The competitions will continue next Saturday, with doors opening to the public at 10:00 am, while the semi-final bouts begin at 11:00 am.

As for the closing day, Sunday, it begins with the weigh-in procedures for the 16-17 year old, under 23 year old, and senior categories at 9:00 am, while the doors open to the public at 10:00 am, with the final bouts and third-place confrontations starting at 11:00 am, leading to the crowning of the winning champions.

Ali Khoury, a member of the Board of Directors of the UAE Muay Thai and Kickboxing Federation, said that the tournament is an important milestone on the federation’s competitions agenda, because of the competitive environment it provides that contributes to enhancing the players’ experiences and raising the level of friction between the various clubs and academies, which reflects positively on the development of the game and the expansion of the base of its practitioners in the country.

He added that the high demand for registration and participation reflects the growing status of Muay Thai in the country, and confirms the success of the Federation’s plans to expand the game’s base and provide more opportunities for players to test their technical and physical levels within organized competitions.
