Kane and Haaland…a “machine war” between the most dangerous strikers in the world

The World Cup quarter-final match between England and Norway will witness a confrontation between two of the most dangerous strikers in the world.

The British news agency (PA Media) highlighted in a report a comparison between Harry Kane, the captain of the England national team, and Erling Haaland, the star of the Norwegian national team.

She added that the two players are competing among a list that includes prominent names for the title of top scorer in the 2026 World Cup.

Argentine Lionel Messi tops the scorers list with 8 goals before the start of the quarter-finals, while Haaland shares second place with 7 goals with French star Kylian Mbappe, and Kane comes third with 6 goals.

Haaland played one fewer game than his rivals in the Golden Boot race, as he missed Norway’s final match in Group I against France amid several changes to the starting lineup.

The Manchester City striker scored two goals for Norway in wins over Iraq, Senegal and Brazil, in addition to one goal against Ivory Coast.

As for Kane, he scored two goals in England’s 4-2 victory over Croatia in the first round, then scored two goals to save his country a 2-1 victory over the Democratic Republic of Congo in the round of 32. He also scored two other goals in the Panama and Mexico matches, and assisted Jude Bellingham’s second goal against Mexico.

In the North American World Cup, the two stars continue to shine after an abundance of goalscoring in the past season.

Kane scored 73 goals in 63 matches for Bayern Munich and the England national team in the 2025-2026 season, and led his German team to win the domestic league and German Cup double, in addition to reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Haaland also won the English Premier League Golden Shoe award for the third time by scoring 27 goals, as Manchester City competed strongly with defending champion Arsenal, and also won two cup titles in England.

Haaland scored 58 goals in 63 matches this season, including 12 goals in the last four matches for his country in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

Harry Kane became the all-time top scorer for the England national team in March 2023, and since then he has continued his brilliance, raising his tally to 85 goals in 119 international matches for his country, surpassing the previous record set by Wayne Rooney by 32 goals.

Kane entered the World Cup tournament holding a previous record in the World Cup by scoring 8 goals in 11 matches, including winning the Golden Boot award in 2018 after scoring 6 goals. He became the all-time top scorer for England in the World Cup after surpassing Gary Lineker’s record (10 goals).

As for Haaland (25 years old), who is participating in the World Cup for the first time, he is the all-time top scorer for the Norwegian national team with 62 goals, nearly double the tally of the previous all-time top scorer Jurgen Juventus, who scored 33 goals. The Norwegian star has been the all-time top scorer in only 54 matches since his first international match in 2019.
