152 male and female players compete in the UAE Chess Championship in Fujairah

Abu Dhabi, July 14 / WAM / The Emirates Individual Chess Championship competitions for the age categories of chess under 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 years (open and female) were launched at the Fujairah Chess and Culture Club, organized by the Emirates Chess Federation as part of the local season agenda, with the participation of 152 male and female players representing various clubs in the country.
The opening ceremony was witnessed by Dr. Ismail Ibrahim Al Khouri, President of the Emirates Chess Federation, and Dr. Abdullah Al Barakat, President of the Fujairah Chess and Culture Club, while Mohammed Waseem Khayat, Second Deputy Financial Secretary of the Federation, made the first move to mark the start of the competitions.
The first round resulted in strong competitions and outstanding technical levels in various age groups, with a number of male and female players sharing the top spot after achieving victory in their opening matches.
Muhammad Waseem Khayat stressed that the tournament is one of the most prominent tournaments of the season for the Sunni groups, because it represents a platform for discovering and honing talent and preparing national team players, noting that the large participation reflects the continuous development of the sport of chess in the UAE and the important role that clubs play in preparing male and female players.
