Dubai .. The start of the annual international conference for nuclear medicine and molecular photography

Dubai, April 19 / WAM / The work of the Fifth UAE International International Conference on Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Medicine was launched today at the Arab Nuclear Medicine Association at Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences with the participation of 300 specialists from inside and outside the country, along with 35 international lectures and experts in the fields of nuclear medicine and radiotherapy.
The conference extending over two days is a leading international platform for exchanging experiences and reviewing the latest science in diagnosing and treating tumors using molecular imaging and molecular radiotherapy, as well as reviewing international best practices and discussing the results of modern treatments according to the latest medical protocols.
Dr. Batoul Al -Balushi, Assistant Professor of Nuclear Medicine at Mohammed bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, head of the Nuclear Medicine Department of the Dubai Health Authority and President of the Arab Nuclear Medicine Association in a statement to Emirates News Agency “WAM” that this distinguished scientific event that brings together a group of scientists and experts from around the world discusses modern innovations that contribute to improving the quality of patient care, especially in the areas of thyroid and thyroid gland.
She added that the conference aims to enhance regional and international cooperation and open new horizons for scientific research and professional development in addition to highlighting the extensive potential of nuclear medicine in improving patients ’life through a deeper understanding of advanced technologies and clinical applications, noting that this year the conference focuses on nuclear medicine applications in treating tumors, including brain and thyroid diseases as well as diagnosing and treating cancer using molecular imaging and treatment with radioactive substances in particular Prostate cancer and pituitary gland.
Dr. Al -Balushi pointed out a qualitative medical achievement for the UAE, which is to use modern techniques to diagnose Alzheimer’s disease, where changes in the brain are monitored using hybrid cameras that depend on molecular imaging.
She emphasized that this technique allows early detection of the disease accurately ranging from 90 to 95% by tracking the accumulation of specific proteins in the brain before the appearance of clinical symptoms, which constitutes a major step in promoting early diagnosis and improving treatment opportunities.
For her part, Dr. Diana Biz, head of the Department of Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic Radiology at the International Atomic Energy Agency, stated that nuclear medicine is witnessing an accelerated growth in the region, indicating the importance of the conference in promoting continuous education and transferring knowledge.
She said that what the UAE is witnessing, especially Dubai, is an advanced model in the use of the latest technologies and treatment applications supported by highly equipped medical competencies, which makes the state on a clear path towards sustainable expansion in nuclear medicine services. It also affirmed the commitment of the International Atomic Energy Agency to continue its support for international cooperation in this field with the aim of developing specialization and expanding the scope of the benefit of patients from these vital services.
Dr. Akram Al -Ibrahim, President of the Asian and Al -Aqnosa Association of Nuclear Medicine, said that the conference embodies the great development in nuclear medicine, especially in the field of accurate personal medicine by directing treatments accurately towards cancer cells without affecting healthy tissues thanks to the advanced molecular diagnosis.
Dr. Abdel Hamid Al -Awadi, a first consultant in radiology and nuclear medicine from the Kingdom of Bahrain, stressed the importance of expanding the scope of nuclear medicine in the treatment of multiple diseases, adding that in the past nuclear medicine was used in a simple range, but today it is used to treat complex diseases that include the brain, liver, kidneys and cancers, indicating the rapid expansion of this vital specialty.
