“El Gouna Film Festival 8”… Cate Blanchett arrives and honors Yousra with $50,000 for the best feature film

 

This evening, Thursday (October 16), in the coastal city of El Gouna on the Red Sea coast, the activities of the eighth session of the “El Gouna International Film Festival” will begin, in a new look, and under the slogan “Cinema for Humanity,” with the aim of promoting cultural dialogue and supporting societal issues through the “Seventh Art.”

Yesterday evening, Wednesday, the arrival of the guests of the festival, whose activities will continue until October 24th, was completed, including artists and media figures, led by international star Cate Blanchett, who will be honored with the “Hero of Humanity” award, in addition to being the festival’s guest of honor. The international star will participate in a dialogue session moderated by media personality Raya Abi Rashid, within the “Cine El Gouna Forum,” which is held in partnership with the Foundation. The eighth session has a unique character, combining cinema, culture and human inspiration, and this year the festival offers an exceptional cinematic experience, combining international performances, artistic events and interactive programmes, which highlight cinematic creativity and the festival’s humanitarian message.

The “Festival” also continues its journey in supporting cinematic creativity and encouraging filmmakers to raise humanitarian and social issues, through cinematic films, as an artistic, creative, humanitarian message, while continuing its efforts to enhance Egypt’s position as a regional center for the film industry, and an attractive destination for artists and directors from around the world.

The El Gouna Convention and Culture Center will host the opening and closing ceremonies, in addition to major film screenings and major seminars, while outdoor performances, the “El Gouna Cine Forum,” interactive workshops, and dialogue sessions with stars will be held at the “El Gouna Art and Design Exhibition.” Special exhibitions and artistic initiatives accompanying the festival will be held at the “El Gouna Marina.”

An exceptional honor for the star Yousra:

On the second day of the festival (Friday, October 17), the El Gouna International Film Festival is organizing a special exhibition for the Egyptian star Yousra, celebrating her diverse works between cinema, drama and theatre, as a gesture of appreciation for her artistic career that has spanned more than five decades. The festival’s official account on Instagram published a video collecting clips of Yousra’s films, and pictures from her most prominent artistic stations, which established her name as one of the icons of Egyptian and Arab art.
